POSITION SUMMARY:
The Program Attorney serves as an educator within the judicial branch, responsible for delivering legal knowledge and developing engaging educational initiatives for judges and court staff.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborate in the design, management, and execution of both in-person and online educational programs tailored for judges, prosecutors, and court support staff.
  • Deliver presentations, participate as a panelist, and moderate discussions at TMCEC events.
  • Analyze feedback and data to assess, plan, and enhance educational offerings.
  • Conduct needs assessments to ensure that curriculum designs effectively address the needs of specific audiences.
  • Facilitate the development and implementation of educational materials.
  • Identify and suggest relevant topics for presentations.
  • Organize agendas and instructional content.
  • Recruit, prepare, and manage faculty members.
  • Assist faculty in creating course materials and presentations.
  • Draft correspondence and documentation for assigned programs, including seminar descriptions and learning objectives.
  • Attend and oversee seminars.
  • Provide legal support and answer inquiries from judges, prosecutors, and court personnel.
  • Monitor legislative developments, court rulings, and other relevant publications to assess educational needs.
  • Research and write on various legal topics.
  • Update and draft publications for judicial use.
  • Edit TMCEC's print and online resources.
  • Create instructional media.
  • Represent TMCEC at various professional gatherings and associations.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Exceptional attention to detail, along with strong organizational and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Demonstrated work ethic and ability to manage multiple projects independently.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, capable of working with a diverse range of individuals.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 and familiar with information technology and office equipment.
  • Willingness to travel within the state.
  • Must be a licensed attorney in Texas.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in teaching, instructional design, adult education, technical writing, and project management.
  • Understanding of criminal law procedures and the workings of Texas criminal courts.
  • Background as a staff attorney or government lawyer, reflecting a commitment to public service.
