As a member of TCEQ Legal Services, your contributions will help ensure that the commission's decisions adhere to legal standards and that the regulations we establish align with statutory requirements and are consistently enforced.

This position is situated within our General Law Division.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES...

  • Deliver administrative assistance to attorneys, senior legal staff, coordinators, supervisors, and investigators within the Office of Legal Services at TCEQ.
  • Draft and manage documents and correspondence for legal actions and internal office use. Review, edit, format, and prepare documents in compliance with TCEQ accessibility standards and other relevant guidelines.
  • Organize and manage documents and correspondence for distribution and filing with governmental bodies; submit documents to governmental entities; send, fax, and hand-deliver documents; and transcribe audio recordings of proceedings.
  • Maintain databases; monitor information; and compile technical data for reports, correspondence, and legal documents. Retrieve reports from databases as needed.
  • Execute special tasks which may involve scheduling meetings; managing calendars; reserving meeting spaces; answering phones, including the reception line for OLS; coordinating travel plans and preparing agency travel documentation; and tracking pending and completed tasks.
Qualifications:

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • One year of experience as a Legal Secretary I at TCEQ.

OR

  • High school diploma from an accredited institution, plus two years of full-time experience in clerical or administrative support roles.
  • One semester (15 semester hours) of accredited college coursework may substitute for each six months of the required experience.
  • Completion of 300 clock hours of coursework in the clerical field from a licensed vocational, technical, or business institution may substitute for each six months of the required experience.

OR

  • High school diploma from an accredited institution, plus one year of full-time experience as a legal secretary.
  • Completion of a legal secretarial program from a licensed vocational, technical, or business institution may substitute for one year of the required experience.

TRANSCRIPTS / COLLEGE HOURS or COURSEWORK

A copy of your official college transcript or evaluation of foreign credentials in CAPPS is required if necessary to meet the qualifications listed above.
