Community Initiatives Project Manager

The City of New York Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) is dedicated to fostering a network of community-based organizations (CBOs) aimed at mitigating the impacts of poverty and creating pathways for New Yorkers and their communities to thrive.
DYCD's programs encompass a wide range of initiatives, including comprehensive afterschool systems, community centers, literacy programs for adults and youth, employment services for young individuals, support for runaway and homeless youth, anti-violence efforts, and community development projects.
In collaboration with various City agencies, DYCD also engages in numerous mayoral initiatives designed to enhance City services and expand opportunities for minority and immigrant youth and families.
This position resides within the Bureau of Planning, Program Integration, and Evaluation (PPIE), which champions data-driven and evidence-based decision-making throughout DYCD. The bureau provides training and technical assistance to service providers, ensuring high-quality services in communities through capacity building.
As part of the Office of Capacity Building and Professional Development, this role focuses on enhancing the management and organizational capabilities of nonprofit organizations to better serve their communities. The unit is committed to improving program and service quality by developing the skills and knowledge of front-line and supervisory staff at these organizations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain specialized expertise in community-based programming and initiatives to support the integration of anti-violence and community safety programs within DYCD's service ecosystem.
- Establish strong relationships across the agency to identify and support capacity-building strategies that address employment barriers and foster community safety.
- Oversee special projects by defining scopes, timelines, coordinating tasks, and managing logistics to facilitate meaningful engagement opportunities.
- Assist in the planning and implementation of capacity-building resources, training, and professional development activities for nonprofit staff and internal DYCD personnel.
- Manage contracted vendors to ensure alignment with agency priorities and oversee vendor contracts, ensuring timely registration and payment.
- Curate targeted outreach campaigns to enhance strategy development and provider connections.
- Collaborate with PPIE colleagues to guide technical assistance provider practice changes, ensuring they have the necessary tools to meet agency objectives.
- Design and facilitate intra-agency meetings to establish policies and promote consistent implementation practices.
- Monitor performance and progress towards programmatic outcomes, developing and communicating the impact of capacity-building support through data analysis.
- Engage with other DYCD bureaus, community-based organizations, and City agencies to coordinate joint initiatives and identify potential partners.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. A master's degree from an accredited institution in a relevant field of physical, biological, environmental science, or public health.
To qualify for higher levels, candidates must possess:
1. A doctorate degree in a relevant field and one year of supervisory or research experience; or
2. A master's degree with three years of research experience; or
3. Equivalent education and/or experience.
All candidates must have at least a master's degree and two years of relevant experience.

- Proficient project and event management abilities, with a focus on coordinating logistics and meeting deadlines.
- Excellent facilitation and communication skills.

- Knowledge of best practices in adult learning and instructional design.
- Critical thinking skills with a solutions-oriented mindset.
- Ability to adapt plans based on stakeholder feedback.
- Skilled in creating visual presentations and utilizing virtual meeting platforms.
- Comfortable with learning new data and administrative systems.
Public Service Loan Forgiveness: As a prospective employee of the City of New York, you may be eligible for federal loan forgiveness programs.
Residency Requirement: New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment.
