Position Overview:
The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Research Laboratory Specialist to join a dynamic team within the Department of Neuroscience. This role is pivotal in advancing our understanding of neuroinflammation related to various neurological conditions.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee and manage the laboratory's animal colony, ensuring compliance with ethical standards.
  • Conduct genotyping and contribute to comprehensive data analysis.
  • Engage in molecular studies and assist in training graduate students in laboratory techniques.
  • Provide technical support by performing complex laboratory tasks and adapting methods to meet research needs.
  • Assist in evaluating research methodologies and procedures based on established objectives.
  • Perform small animal surgeries as required.
  • Utilize specialized statistical software for data manipulation and analysis, compiling detailed reports.
  • Conduct literature reviews to support ongoing research initiatives.
  • Instruct academic sections on laboratory methods, procedures, and safety protocols.
  • Facilitate training for other staff members on laboratory procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience: A minimum of 3 years of laboratory experience; 6 years of related experience may substitute for the degree.
  • Prior laboratory experience may include student internships or assistant roles.
