Overview: The Field Engineer (levels I, II) utilizes extensive knowledge of electronics in engineering design, analysis, evaluation, and the development of technical documentation and reports. This role provides advanced technical support to the Project Manager in areas such as task leadership, research, design, development, material identification, procurement support, inventory management, installation, and testing. The position requires independent judgment and discretion to complete engineering tasks effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

  • May lead and supervise subordinate staff.
  • Aids in the creation of Installation Design Packages.
  • Identifies issues and prepares Condition Discrepancy Reports, Change Order Requests, and Liaison Action Requests.
  • Contributes to the development of technical manuals and specifications for systems and equipment.
  • Analyzes, reports on, and rectifies causes of equipment and system failures.
  • Researches and selects appropriate equipment and materials.
  • Conducts briefings and presentations.
  • Performs engineering, quality, and safety audits and inspections.
  • Provides technical expertise and support for installation and production processes.
  • Conducts pre and post-installation testing.
  • Delivers project status reports, including Earned Value Management metrics.
  • Familiar with Multi-pin, Fiber Optic, RF, and other types of connectors.
  • Provides final task status for Task Order Closeout reports.
  • Overtime, including weekend work and travel outside local areas, may be required.
  • Undertakes additional assignments or tasks as requested by management to support the organization's mission and objectives.
Education / Specialized Training:
  • A High School diploma or GED may be required based on contract stipulations.
Level I:
  • A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field with one year of experience, or an Associate's degree with four years of relevant experience, or seven years of related experience.
  • Degree should be in Engineering, Management, or a related field.
  • Non-degreed candidates must possess seven years of technical experience in installation, modification, operation, maintenance, testing, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical or electronic systems following Military Standard procedures.
Level II:
  • A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field with one year of experience, or an Associate's degree with six years of relevant experience, or ten years of directly related experience.
  • Degree should be in Engineering, Management, or a technically related field.
  • Non-degreed candidates must have ten years of technical experience in installation, modification, operation, maintenance, testing, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical/electronic systems or NAVSEA governed hot work items following Military Standard procedures.
Security Clearance:
  • Clearance up to secret level may be necessary.
Certifications / Licenses:
  • Cableway certification.
  • Multi-pin connector certification.
  • Fiber Optic connector certification.
  • Fire watch certification.
  • A valid active State Driver's License is required.
Physical/Environmental Job Requirements:

Physical requirements may include:
  • Lifting/moving up to and including 50 pounds.
  • Climbing several flights of stairs routinely.
  • Performing tasks in confined spaces.
Work is primarily conducted onboard naval vessels, which may involve various physical activities such as stooping, climbing, and walking.

In carrying out these duties, outdoor work may be required, exposing the individual to temperature variations, loud noises, and other physical hazards.
