Position Overview:

Under general supervision, this role is responsible for executing a variety of semi-skilled technical tasks associated with the upkeep and repair of municipal water treatment and collection systems.

Employees in this position adhere to established safety protocols, codes, and regulations relevant to their work. They are expected to have prior experience in the field and possess the ability to carry out tasks independently, while still being subject to oversight and evaluation throughout the process.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct technical maintenance, replacement, and repair tasks on water treatment and collection facilities and equipment, including pumps, piping, wells, and distribution systems.
  • Prepare and submit work estimates for service requests; identify vendors and contractors for necessary materials or labor.
  • Inspect facilities and equipment to detect existing or potential issues; report any breakdowns or obstructions to the supervisor.
  • Assist in the maintenance of water valves and fire hydrants.
  • Utilize various hand and power tools for electrical and mechanical repairs, such as air wrenches, drills, and compressors.
  • Maintain detailed records and logs of mechanical maintenance and repairs.
  • Identify and mark City-owned utility properties and equipment.
  • Respond to emergency situations related to water distribution and wastewater collection systems.
  • Perform administrative tasks, including customer interactions and documentation for all jobs, parts utilized, hours worked, and preventive maintenance scheduling.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class B Florida Driver's License.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in semi-skilled utilities maintenance and repair work, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • FDEP Water Distribution Level 1, 2, 3 Licenses must be obtained within one (1) year of hire.
  • Backflow Prevention Certification is preferred.

Work Environment:
The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts requiring normal safety precautions typical of such settings, including the use of safe workplace practices and adherence to fire and building safety regulations.
