Job Overview:
Under general supervision, this position is responsible for executing a variety of semi-skilled technical tasks related to the upkeep and repair of municipal water treatment and collection systems.
Employees in this role adhere to established safety protocols, regulations, and codes relevant to their duties. Candidates should possess prior experience in the field and demonstrate the ability to work independently, although tasks will be subject to review and inspection.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct technical maintenance, replacement, and repair work on water treatment and collection systems, including pumps, piping, wells, and both water distribution and wastewater collection networks.
- Prepare and submit estimates for work orders; identify vendors and contractors for material or labor procurement.
- Inspect facilities and equipment to detect existing or potential issues; report breakdowns or obstructions to the supervisor.
- Assist in the maintenance program for water valves and fire hydrants.
- Utilize various hand and power tools for electrical and mechanical repairs, such as air wrenches, drills, and compressors.
- Maintain detailed records and logs of mechanical maintenance and repairs.
- Identify and mark city-owned utility properties and equipment.
- Respond to emergency situations concerning water distribution and wastewater collection systems.
- Perform administrative tasks, including face-to-face customer interactions and documentation of jobs, parts used, hours worked, and preventive maintenance scheduling.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Valid Class B Florida Driver's License is required.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in semi-skilled utilities maintenance and repair work, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- FDEP Water Distribution Level 1, 2, 3 Licenses must be obtained within one (1) year of hire.
- Backflow Prevention Certification is preferred.
