Job Overview:

Under general supervision, this role involves executing a variety of semi-skilled technical tasks related to the upkeep and repair of municipal water treatment and collection systems.

Employees in this position are expected to adhere to established safety protocols, codes, and regulations relevant to their duties. They should possess prior experience in the field and be capable of performing tasks independently, although their work will be subject to oversight and evaluation during and after task completion.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct technical maintenance, replacement, and repair activities on water treatment and collection facilities and equipment, including pumps, piping, wells, and both water distribution and wastewater collection systems.
  • Prepare and submit estimates for work orders; identify vendors and contractors for material or labor procurement.
  • Inspect facilities and equipment to detect existing or potential issues; report breakdowns or blockages to supervisors.
  • Assist in the maintenance program for water valves and fire hydrants.
  • Utilize various hand and power tools for electrical and mechanical repairs, such as air wrenches, drills, and compressors.
  • Maintain records and logs of mechanical maintenance and repairs.
  • Identify and mark city-owned utility properties and equipment.
  • Respond to emergency situations concerning water distribution and wastewater collection systems.
  • Perform administrative tasks, including face-to-face customer interactions and documentation for jobs, parts used, hours worked, and preventive maintenance scheduling.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Valid Class B Florida Driver's License is required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in semi-skilled utilities maintenance and repair work, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • FDEP Water Distribution Level 1, 2, 3 Licenses must be obtained within one (1) year of hire.
  • Backflow Prevention Certification is preferred.

Work Environment:
This position involves everyday risks or discomforts that necessitate normal safety precautions typical of environments such as offices or training rooms. Employees are expected to practice safe workplace habits, avoid trips and falls, and adhere to fire and building safety regulations.
