Position Overview:

Under general supervision, this role involves executing a variety of semi-skilled technical tasks related to the upkeep and repair of municipal water treatment and collection facilities.

Employees in this position are expected to adhere to established safety protocols, codes, and regulations relevant to their duties. They should possess prior experience in the field and be capable of performing tasks independently, although their work will be subject to oversight and evaluation during and after task completion.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct technical maintenance, replacement, and repair activities on water treatment and collection systems, including pumps, piping, wells, and both water distribution and wastewater collection systems.
  • Prepare and submit estimates for work orders; identify vendors and contractors for material or labor supply.
  • Inspect facilities and equipment to detect existing or potential issues; report breakdowns or obstructions to the supervisor.
  • Assist in the maintenance program for water valves and fire hydrants.
  • Utilize various hand and power tools for electrical and mechanical repairs, such as air wrenches, electric drills, and saws.
  • Maintain records and logs related to mechanical maintenance and repairs.
  • Locate and mark City-owned utility property and equipment.
  • Respond to emergency situations concerning water distribution and wastewater collection systems.
  • Perform administrative tasks, including customer interactions, documentation of jobs, parts used, hours worked, and preventive maintenance scheduling.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Valid Class B Florida Driver's License is required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in semi-skilled utilities maintenance and repair work, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • FDEP Water Distribution Level 1, 2, 3 Licenses must be obtained within one (1) year of hire.
  • Backflow Prevention Certification is preferred.

Work Environment:
The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts requiring normal safety precautions typical of office settings, including the use of safe workplace practices, avoidance of trips and falls, and adherence to fire and building safety regulations.
