Water Systems Maintenance Technician

Under general oversight, the role involves executing a diverse array of semi-skilled technical tasks in the upkeep and repair of municipal water treatment and collection systems.

Individuals in this position are expected to carry out all responsibilities in accordance with established safety protocols, standards, and regulations pertinent to the job.

Personnel in this role should have prior experience in the field and are capable of working autonomously, although their work is subject to review and inspection during and after the completion of assigned duties.


Key Responsibilities:

Conducts technical maintenance, replacement activities, and repairs on water treatment and collection systems and equipment, such as pumps, piping, wells, and both water distribution and wastewater collection networks.

Prepares and submits estimates for work orders; identifies vendors and contractors to provide necessary materials or labor.

Performs inspections of facilities, equipment, and water and wastewater system components to detect existing or potential issues; notifies supervisor of any breakdowns or blockages.

Assists in the maintenance program for water valves and fire hydrants.

Utilizes a variety of hand and power tools for electrical and mechanical repairs, including air wrenches, air hammers, electric drills, saws, and air compressors.

Maintains detailed mechanical maintenance and repair records and logs.
Identifies and marks municipal utility property and equipment.
Responds to emergency situations related to water distribution and wastewater collection systems.

Handles administrative tasks, including direct customer interactions; manages paperwork for all tasks, parts utilized, hours worked, and actions taken; schedules preventive maintenance.


Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED.
Must possess and maintain a valid Class B Driver's License.

Two (2) years of experience in semi-skilled utilities maintenance and repair work; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

FDEP Water Distribution Level 1, 2, 3 Licenses, must be obtainable within one (1) year of employment.
Backflow Prevention Certification is preferred.

The work environment involves typical risks or discomforts that necessitate standard safety precautions common to settings such as offices or training rooms, e.g., adherence to safe workplace practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, and compliance with fire and building safety regulations.
