Position Overview:


Holtec International, along with its affiliated entities, is at the forefront of creating a consistently safe and reliable source of sustainable energy through nuclear fission, specifically the SMR-300 small modular reactor.

This role is presented by SMR LLC, a proud member of the Holtec International network, recognized globally as a comprehensive supplier of equipment and systems across the nuclear, solar, geothermal, and fossil fuel energy sectors.


The Nuclear Thermal Systems Engineer will take charge of drafting technical documentation pertinent to testing prerequisites and design specifications, in addition to evaluating and managing documents from supplier contributions.

Furthermore, this role includes on-site responsibilities such as observing tests, sanctioning the initiation of tests, and confirming the completion of tests.

The ideal candidate for the Nuclear Thermal Systems Engineer position will possess extensive experience in formulating and implementing testing requirements and protocols. Familiarity with quality assurance programs compliant with 10 CFR 50 Appendix B (e.g., NQA-1) is essential. Knowledge of commercial nuclear licensing and operational procedures is advantageous.

Key Responsibilities:
- Process and evaluate supplier contributions related to testing.
- Draft technical documents concerning testing, including requirements, procedures, and specifications.

- Conduct testing as per established procedures, serving as a test observer, along with post-processing and data visualization.

- Provide technical support for troubleshooting.
- Develop a comprehensive understanding of testing facilities based on existing process and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs).
- Review testing documentation and reports.
- Support the requirements of the testing program.
- Engage in hands-on problem-solving for unique testing challenges.

Essential Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline.
- Experience in laboratory experimentation, including procedure formulation, report writing, and data analysis.
- Proficiency in data processing software such as Python or MATLAB is mandatory.
- Ability to operate with minimal supervision to address complex issues and provide timely recommendations.

- Willingness to travel up to 50% of the year and be deployed to sites for extended periods if based in Camden.

- Proven technical writing capabilities.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Capacity to resolve issues and make informed engineering decisions.
- Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively on specific tasks while managing multiple priorities.
- Eligibility to work under 10 CFR Part 810.
- Experience with thermal-hydraulic system code analysis (e.g., RELAP) is preferred.
