Camden, New Jersey, United States Holtec International Full time
Position Overview

Holtec International, along with its affiliated entities, is at the forefront of developing a reliable and secure clean energy solution through nuclear fission, specifically the SMR-300 small modular reactor. This role is offered by SMR LLC, a proud member of the Holtec International family, recognized globally as a comprehensive supplier of equipment and systems across the nuclear, solar, geothermal, and fossil fuel energy sectors.

We invite you to become part of a dynamic and diverse team of engineers and designers dedicated to pioneering the next generation of nuclear power facilities. Holtec International is in search of Nuclear Core Design Engineers to engage in reactor physics analysis and benchmarking tasks essential for the nuclear core design, facilitating the development and regulatory approval of the SMR-300 PWR integral light water reactor. This role demands a highly motivated individual who is adaptable and eager to tackle a variety of technical and regulatory challenges while acquiring new skills to devise practical solutions to complex design issues. The engineer will collaborate within a team executing a U.S. Government cost-shared development initiative, emphasizing the efficient completion of engineering tasks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, modeling, and analysis of the nuclear core, alongside the assessment of fuel cycle performance for the SMR-300 PWR integral light water reactor.
  • Develop nuclear parameters to support safety analysis (including transient and accident analysis), provide data for startup physics testing, assist operations (defining acceptable operational limits), and forecast core behavior.
  • Qualification and validation of computer codes.
  • Preparation of reports and licensing documentation.
  • Participation in discussions with clients, collaborators, and representatives from the United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Nuclear Engineering or Physics (or a closely related discipline) from an accredited institution.
  • 0-5 years of relevant experience in the nuclear sector or a comparable field (such as academia or national laboratories).
  • Proven analytical skills in neutronics or radiation transport using tools like CASMO/SIMULATE, MCNP, or similar software.
  • General understanding of nuclear power plant operations and physics.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).

Preferred Attributes:

  • Master's degree in Nuclear Engineering with a focus on reactor physics or radiation transport.
  • 5+ years of professional experience in the nuclear industry or a related field, particularly in engineering calculations and evaluations utilizing tools such as CASMO/SIMULATE.
  • Demonstrated experience and expertise in nuclear analysis code qualification and validation using advanced codes or benchmarking data.
  • Familiarity with programming languages such as Python.
  • Experience in preparing licensing documents for submission to regulatory bodies and a comprehensive understanding of NUREG-0800 (NRC Standard Review Plan for LWRs) Chapters 4 and 15 requirements.
  • Eligibility to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810.
