Position Overview
As a Biological Laboratory Technician, you will engage in essential research activities while honing your technical skills. This role involves providing routine to moderately complex technical assistance for various research initiatives. The work is structured, allowing for a degree of independence when adhering to established protocols and procedures. You will be tasked with responsibilities assigned by your supervisor.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct DNA and RNA extractions, perform phenotyping assays, manage data, and assist with field collections.
  • Oversee the maintenance of greenhouse plants and organize seed and tissue databases.
  • Procure materials and supplies necessary for laboratory operations.
  • Execute tasks similar to those of a Lab and Research Aide, including specimen collection, setting up and conducting repetitive experiments, and preparing culture media, chemicals, reagents, and solutions as directed.
  • Prepare supporting documentation, assist in data analysis, and contribute to report writing. Participate in literature reviews.
  • Operate, adjust, and maintain specific scientific equipment and instruments. Manage inventory and order lab supplies as needed.
  • Accurately record and log experimental data.
  • Stay updated on new laboratory techniques and methodologies.
  • Provide routine technical and administrative support to research projects.
  • Coordinate with study subjects, manage information intake, and track results. Offer logistical support for studies.
  • Additional duties may be assigned as necessary.

Employment Details
This is a full-time position, contingent on continued funding, with a 12-month appointment and the potential for a one-year renewal.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience: At least 1 year of laboratory experience, which may include student experience. A Bachelor's degree may substitute for experience.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) in Biology or a related field, with experience in research (independent or supervised research preferred; course-based research minimum).
  • Experience: At least 1 year of laboratory experience, which may include student experience. Experience in laboratory genetics is preferred. Strong written and verbal scientific communication skills are also preferred.

Physical Requirements
This position may require extended periods of standing and squatting while conducting experiments or caring for specimens. It also involves keyboarding and other bench work that necessitates fine finger manipulation.
