Key Responsibilities
The selected candidate will provide essential technical support within a dynamic research environment, collaborating with undergraduate students, research scientists, and technical personnel. Responsibilities will include:
- Maintaining a mouse colony, including tasks such as genotyping, husbandry, and database management.
- Managing laboratory supplies and ensuring the upkeep of lab equipment.
- Preparing common laboratory solutions and assisting in various experimental procedures.
- Engaging in tissue harvesting, microscopy, PCR, Western blotting, and flow cytometry.
Team Collaboration
This role emphasizes teamwork and collaboration. Candidates should be prepared to actively engage with fellow lab members and contribute to a supportive research atmosphere. Intellectual curiosity and a proactive approach to problem-solving are essential for success in this position.
Minimum Qualifications
Laboratory Technician 2
- Education: Associate's degree.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years in a laboratory setting, with student experience considered. A Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific field may substitute for experience.
Research Laboratory Specialist
- Education: Bachelor's degree.
- Experience: 3 years of relevant laboratory experience; 6 years of lab-related experience may be accepted in lieu of a degree.
Senior Laboratory Specialist
- Education: Bachelor's degree.
- Experience: 9 years in a laboratory technician role; a Master's or Terminal degree plus 4 years of experience may substitute. 12 years of lab-related experience may be accepted in lieu of a degree.
Preferred Qualifications
- Entry-level candidates with a strong scientific background are encouraged to apply.
- Experienced applicants should possess knowledge of biological procedures and animal handling.
- Familiarity with protocol development, regulatory compliance, and safety standards is advantageous.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
- Strong attention to detail and effective communication skills are essential.
Physical Requirements
This position requires the ability to stand and squat for extended periods while conducting experiments and caring for laboratory animals. Proficiency in keyboarding and fine motor skills for animal procedures is also necessary.
