Laboratory Technician or Intermediate Laboratory Technician

Position Overview:
The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking qualified candidates for the role of Laboratory Technician or Intermediate Laboratory Technician within the Department of Medicine, specifically in the Division of Hematology and Oncology. This position plays a crucial role in the development and analysis of Chimeric Antigen Receptor (CAR) engineered cell therapies aimed at treating cancer and autoimmune disorders.
Key Responsibilities:
The selected candidate will be involved in the following:
- Developing and evaluating CAR T and NK cell therapies.
- Conducting quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) testing of viral and CAR products, utilizing techniques such as qPCR and ELISA.
- Preparing quality control documentation, including study reports and method validations.
- Collaborating with the regulatory team to prepare necessary documentation for submission to regulatory authorities.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A Bachelor's or Master's degree with a background in immunology and bacteriology.
- Proficiency in sterile mammalian tissue culture techniques.
- Experience with qPCR methodologies, including analysis and design.
- Familiarity with human T cells and/or NK cells is preferred.
- Strong record-keeping abilities and exceptional organizational skills.
- Attention to detail and effective verbal and written communication skills.
Minimum Requirements for Laboratory Technician:
Education: Bachelor's degree.
Experience: 3 years of relevant experience, or 6 years of lab-related experience in lieu of a degree.
Licensure: None required.
Minimum Requirements for Intermediate Laboratory Technician:
Education: Bachelor's degree.
Experience: 6 years of experience in a laboratory technician role; a Master's degree may substitute for required experience. 9 years of lab-related experience accepted in lieu of a degree.
Licensure: None required.
Physical Demands:
This role may require extended periods of standing and squatting while conducting experiments or caring for laboratory specimens. It also involves keyboarding and other bench work requiring fine motor skills.
