Organization
Under general supervision, oversees and evaluates equipment functionality. Manages the steam and chilled water facility by regulating and controlling steam and chilled water, conducting water assessments, and performing analyses.Duties:
  • Monitors and assesses equipment to identify leaks or malfunctions, ensuring efficient and safe operation
  • Conducts maintenance on sophisticated machinery
  • Identifies causes of operational errors, determines necessary maintenance, and consults with the supervisor prior to executing repairs
  • Operates generation equipment for steam and chilled water, including boilers, chillers, and cooling towers
  • Regulates and manages the production of steam and chilled water to optimize plant efficiency
  • Observes and interprets readings from gauges, meters, and charts to confirm proper boiler operation
  • Tests water quality in boilers and implements corrective measures, including mixing and adding chemicals to prevent corrosion and harmful deposits
  • Analyzes complex issues and takes appropriate actions to ensure continuous equipment and system operation
  • Maintains detailed logs of operations, maintenance, and safety activities, including test results, instrument readings, and records of equipment malfunctions and maintenance work
  • May provide training to other staff on plant operations and safety protocols
  • Ensures plant functionality during closures or emergencies related to steam and chilled water operations
  • Performs various tasks as needed to effectively support site operations, including assisting skilled trades

Job Location
Required Education: High School diploma or GED, AND:
  • 12 months of experience in steam and chilled water plant operations or related industrial plant operations
Preferred: 18 months of experience in steam and chilled water plant operations or related industrial plant operationsCertifications/Licenses:
  • State of Oklahoma Class II Boilers License or the ability to obtain within 90 days of hire
  • Valid Oklahoma Driver's License to operate University vehicles or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire
Skills & Abilities:
  • Understanding of water analysis and chemical treatments
  • Familiarity with safe operating procedures
  • Detail-oriented, particularly in monitoring gauges and indicators to ensure proper equipment function
  • Ability to comprehend complex written and verbal instructions
  • Capacity to troubleshoot and identify causes of complex operational errors, discussing findings with the supervisor
  • Ability to apply logic and reasoning to devise solutions for complex problems
  • Proficient in using hand and power tools, control panels, and switches
