We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Plant Operations Engineer to join our team at InsideHigherEd. The successful candidate will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of our steam and chilled water plant, ensuring efficient and safe plant operations.
Key Responsibilities- Plant Operations: Monitor and inspect equipment to detect leaks or malfunctions, and ensure the equipment is operating efficiently and safely.
- Maintenance and Repair: Perform maintenance on complex equipment, including boilers, chillers, and cooling towers.
- Problem-Solving: Determine causes of operating errors, determine what type of maintenance is needed, and discuss with the supervisor before performing maintenance on the equipment.
- Plant Generation: Operate the steam and chilled water plant generation equipment, including boilers, chillers, and cooling towers.
- Efficiency and Safety: Adjust and control the generation of steam and chilled water to ensure maximum efficiency of plant operations, and observe and interpret readings on gauges, meters, and charts to ensure the boilers are operating properly.
- Water Quality: Test boiler water quality and take any corrective action, including but not limited to mixing and adding chemicals to prevent corrosion and harmful deposits.
- Logistics and Reporting: Maintain logs of operation, maintenance, and safety activities, including but not limited to test results, instrument readings, and details of equipment malfunctions and maintenance work.
- Training and Development: May train other employees in plant operations and safety procedures.
- Emergency Response: Keep the plant operational when the University is closed or in case of steam and chill plant emergencies.
- Support Functions: Perform various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the functions of any site support position to include assisting any skilled trade.
- Education: High School diploma or GED, AND 12 months of steam and chilled water plant operation or related industrial plant operation experience.
- Certifications/Licenses: State of Oklahoma Class II Boilers License or the ability to obtain within 90 days of hire date, and a valid Oklahoma Driver's License in order to drive University vehicles or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire date.
- Knowledge: Knowledge of water analysis and chemical treatments, and knowledge of safe operating procedures.
- Attention to Detail: Detail-oriented particularly when watching gauges and other indicators to ensure equipment is working properly.
- Communication: Ability to give full attention and understand complex written and verbal instructions.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to troubleshoot to determine the cause of complex operating errors and discusses with supervisor.
- Logical Reasoning: Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify solutions or approaches to complex problems.
- Technical Skills: Ability to use hand and power tools, control panels and switches.
