Boston, Massachusetts, United States FamilyAid Full time
Position Overview

FamilyAid stands as a prominent organization dedicated to addressing family homelessness across the nation. Our core mission is to empower parents and caregivers who are experiencing homelessness, enabling them to secure stable housing and establish a solid foundation for their children's futures.

We strive to prevent family homelessness whenever feasible, minimize the adverse effects when it cannot be avoided, and ensure families are housed swiftly to mitigate trauma, particularly for children. Our comprehensive support services are designed to promote long-term stability.

Through our innovative two-generation educational initiatives, housing search assistance, and connections to essential resources, we guide both children and parents towards self-sufficiency. Our strategic vision and impactful strategies have successfully supported thousands of children and parents in the Greater Boston area.

Our collaborative and diverse team of over 150 professionals creates an environment that is ideal for skilled, results-driven individuals who are passionate about helping families thrive. FamilyAid has received recognition as a leading workplace and is acknowledged for its commitment to ending homelessness.

Role Summary:

Under the guidance of a Program Supervisor, the Family Support Specialist collaborates with families experiencing homelessness, whether they are temporarily housed at our facilities or in shelters, to facilitate their transition to permanent housing. By employing our agency's approved two-generation, trauma-informed care model, the Family Support Specialist ensures that each family member accesses necessary support and resources for both immediate needs and long-term stability.

Success in this role necessitates a proven track record of working with complex family dynamics, effective trauma-informed care, service planning, critical time intervention, motivational interviewing, and a commitment to addressing multigenerational homelessness.

The Family Support Specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring families receive the services they need for rapid placement into stable housing, while also accumulating resources that enhance the well-being of each family member.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree is required; a BSW/MSW degree is preferred.
  • Professional experience in social services, particularly in case management or social work, is essential.
  • Experience working with homeless or housing-insecure families is preferred.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Haitian Creole or Spanish is required.
  • Ability to operate in both office and field settings with a diverse homeless population.
  • Demonstrated experience in data collection, analysis, and application is necessary.

Work Schedule: The position operates Monday through Friday, with specific start and end times to be determined. Some evening hours may be necessary.

FamilyAid is dedicated to maintaining a policy of equal employment opportunity, ensuring that all individuals are treated fairly without regard to race, color, national origin, religion, disability, veteran status, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, or age.
