Position Summary:
As a Family Services Coordinator, you will play a crucial role in providing emotional support and guidance to families of trauma patients. Your work will involve discussing end-of-life options, including the possibility of organ and tissue donation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide on-call support to families, including during weekends and holidays.
  • Engage with hospitals to present donation opportunities to families.
  • Facilitate donation discussions, either in person or via phone.
  • Educate families about the medical circumstances surrounding death as explained by healthcare professionals.
  • Assess the readiness of the legal next-of-kin to discuss donation options.
  • Advocate for organ donation while respecting cultural and religious beliefs.
  • Maintain a high authorization rate through effective communication and support.
  • Document all interactions and decisions regarding donation discussions.
  • Follow up with donor families post-donation to provide continued support.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

Administrative Duties:

  • Attend mandatory meetings and training sessions.
  • Monitor communications regularly to stay updated.
  • Complete all required training within specified timeframes.

Work Schedule:
This position requires 12 on-call shifts each month, with shifts starting early in the morning and potentially extending late into the night based on case needs.

Travel Requirements:
Significant travel throughout the New England region is necessary, with mileage reimbursement available.

Candidate Profile:
The ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • Empathy and professionalism in crisis situations.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build effective relationships.
  • Competence in reading and interpreting medical records.
  • Experience in crisis intervention and clinical assessment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and the ability to learn internal systems.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in social work, health sciences, or a related field; or equivalent experience in an organ procurement organization.
  • Experience in hospice care, bereavement counseling, or social work is preferred.
  • Hospital experience is advantageous.

Licensing Requirements:

  • Preferred certifications include CPE or a Social Work License.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and maintain an acceptable driving record.
