Position Summary:
As a Family Services Coordinator, you will play a crucial role in providing emotional support and guidance to families of trauma patients. Your work will involve discussing end-of-life options, including the possibility of organ and tissue donation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide on-call support to families, including during weekends and holidays.
- Engage with hospitals to present donation opportunities to families.
- Facilitate donation discussions, either in person or via phone.
- Educate families about the medical circumstances surrounding death as explained by healthcare professionals.
- Assess the readiness of the legal next-of-kin to discuss donation options.
- Advocate for organ donation while respecting cultural and religious beliefs.
- Maintain a high authorization rate through effective communication and support.
- Document all interactions and decisions regarding donation discussions.
- Follow up with donor families post-donation to provide continued support.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
Administrative Duties:
- Attend mandatory meetings and training sessions.
- Monitor communications regularly to stay updated.
- Complete all required training within specified timeframes.
Work Schedule:
This position requires 12 on-call shifts each month, with shifts starting early in the morning and potentially extending late into the night based on case needs.
Travel Requirements:
Significant travel throughout the New England region is necessary, with mileage reimbursement available.
Candidate Profile:
The ideal candidate will possess the following:
- Empathy and professionalism in crisis situations.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build effective relationships.
- Competence in reading and interpreting medical records.
- Experience in crisis intervention and clinical assessment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and the ability to learn internal systems.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in social work, health sciences, or a related field; or equivalent experience in an organ procurement organization.
- Experience in hospice care, bereavement counseling, or social work is preferred.
- Hospital experience is advantageous.
Licensing Requirements:
- Preferred certifications include CPE or a Social Work License.
- Must have a valid driver's license and maintain an acceptable driving record.
