We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Peer Support Specialist to join our team at Massachusetts General Hospital. As a Peer Support Specialist, you will play a vital role in providing recovery-oriented services to individuals with severe and persistent mental illness.
Key Responsibilities- Assist and support individuals in identifying wellness and recovery goals, and develop tools to aid in achieving these goals.
- Provide trauma-informed, person-centered community-based support that promotes holistic health and wellness.
- Engage and support individuals through various modalities, including phone, virtual meetings, and in-person interactions.
- Assist individuals in navigating mental health, medical, and social service systems.
- Proactively work to engage individuals and their families in the treatment and recovery process.
- Assist individuals in developing empowerment and self-advocacy skills and combating stigma.
- Facilitate individual and group-based peer support services that focus on recovery, resiliency, and connecting to resources.
- Develop and maintain up-to-date information on community resources related to self-help and recovery.
- Collaborate with other community resources to expand connections and support.
- Act as a liaison for the RCC/RLC, clubhouses, and other community resources related to peer support services.
- Follow the principles outlined in the Massachusetts CPS Code of Ethics, including maintaining high standards of personal conduct and integrity.
- Participate in required interdisciplinary meetings and provide client advocacy.
- Offer a lived experience perspective to the interdisciplinary treatment team.
- Engage in ongoing and timely communication with other team members to ensure coordination of treatment planning and sharing of pertinent information.
- Ensure accurate and timely documentation of all peer contact in electronic medical records.
- Receive regular weekly supervision and seek additional supervision as needed.
- Attend pertinent continuing education and professional activities related to job responsibilities and career goals.
- Currently or have previously been a recipient of mental health services and be in recovery.
- Have a Bachelor's degree or high school diploma/GED equivalent and a minimum of one year of paid or volunteer experience working with adults with severe and persistent mental illness.
- Be certified by an accredited training program as a Certified Peer Specialist at the time of hire.
