Senior Loan Underwriter

Overview

The Senior Loan Underwriter will oversee the assessment and evaluation of conventional (Conforming and Non-Conforming) FHA, Rural Development, State Authority, and VA loans for Renasant Bank.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate all aforementioned loans for retail branches and wholesale clients across all lending sectors.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in underwriting conventional (conforming and non-conforming) FHA, Rural Development, State Authority, and VA loan applications.
  • Ensure the accuracy of documents submitted against data entered in Automated Underwriting Systems (AUS).
  • Analyze appraisals to confirm acceptable collateral in line with investor and agency standards, adhering to company review protocols.
  • For ineligible loans, maintain awareness of alternative programs to propose potential counteroffers.
  • Engage with loan officers and processors regarding loan decisions and documentation requirements through appropriate communication channels.
  • Confirm data accuracy within the Loan Origination System (LOS) and generate loan decisions accordingly.
  • Ensure flood certifications are obtained and accurate data is recorded in the LOS.
  • Request private mortgage insurance certificates as necessary.
  • Upload FHA appraisals to the designated portal and complete logging in the FHA system.
  • Issue VA Notices of Value (NOV) through the VA portal after reviewing the relevant reports.
  • Prepare credit packages for submission to the appropriate authorities for approval, ensuring all documentation is uploaded correctly.
  • Utilize available tools and resources to assist in the decision-making process and identify when additional information is required.
  • If functioning as a jumbo underwriter, manage loan files and act as a liaison between investors and processors.
  • Collaborate with the closing department to ensure accurate loan closures with the correct documentation and terms.
  • Work with quality control and post-closing teams to resolve any outstanding conditions required by auditors or agencies.
  • Stay informed on all agency and investor guidelines, subscribing to updates from relevant organizations.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in underwriting is essential.
  • Ability to make independent underwriting decisions with minimal oversight.
  • Familiarity with DU, LP, GUS, and other automated investor systems.
  • Capable of meeting tight deadlines and managing multiple tasks under pressure.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Typing speed of 40-50 words per minute with accuracy.
  • Basic mathematical knowledge and aptitude.
  • Quick learner with the ability to adapt to various job assignments.
  • Excellent communication skills, demonstrating professionalism and courtesy.
