Position Overview:
This role is part of the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), which offers a reimbursement initiative for student loan payments.

Eligibility criteria must be met as per VHA policy, and applications should be submitted within four months of appointment.

Approval of the program, award amounts (up to $200,000), and eligibility periods (ranging from one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after a thorough review of the EDRP application.

No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restrictions on moonlighting.

Core Duties:
The incumbent will promote high-quality patient care as a clinical expert in a Community Living Center Care setting.

Responsibilities include mentoring, consulting, and collaborating with healthcare professionals to achieve patient, service, and hospital objectives.

Utilizes assessment skills to conduct thorough examinations of patients, ensuring appropriate follow-up for an assigned patient panel.

Acts decisively in recognizing emergency situations and implementing timely interventions.

Maintains patient confidentiality through professional competence and interpersonal skills; serves as a consultant in the treatment process.

Demonstrates the ability to identify the need for consultations with other specialty areas while ensuring appropriate consult requests.

Maintains accurate and current clinical records, completing medical documentation in accordance with hospital regulations.

Processes alerts and patient notifications promptly, generally within 72 hours.

Ensures continuity of care by performing patient hand-offs when transferring care to another physician.

Serves as a mentor and educator for fellows, residents, trainees, and other staff, planning and guiding educational activities to meet individual learning needs.


Work Schedule:
Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.

Requirements:
- U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when qualified citizens cannot be recruited.
- Applicants selected for VA employment in designated testing positions are subject to urinalysis for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
- Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
- May be required to serve a probationary period and undergo a background/security investigation.
- Must pass a pre-employment physical examination.
- Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is mandatory for all VA Health Care Personnel (HCP).
- Participation in the COVID-19 vaccination program is also required for all Veterans Health Administration HCP.

Qualifications:
To qualify for this position, candidates must meet the basic requirements and any additional criteria specified in the job announcement.

Basic Requirements:
- U.S. Citizenship.
- Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree from an accredited institution.
- Current, unrestricted medical license to practice in a U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia.

Residency Training:
Completion of residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to board certification eligibility.

Preferred Experience:
- Ability to select, develop, and conduct literature searches on relevant research problems.
- Establishes goals and effectively executes plans to ensure successful completion of research projects.
- Maintains standards of patient care and ensures accreditation compliance.
- Collaborates with professional and administrative staff.
- Participates in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement activities.

Physical Requirements:
- Moderate lifting (15-44 pounds), light carrying (under 15 pounds), and various physical activities as required.

Environmental Factors:
Work may involve exposure to various conditions, including outside and inside environments, slippery surfaces, and irregular hours.

Education:
Degree of Doctor of Medicine or equivalent from an accredited institution.
