Position Overview

The Postdoctoral Research Associate role is pivotal in advancing integrated research and outreach initiatives focused on food safety protocols, particularly emphasizing good manufacturing practices (GMP) and Preventive Controls for Human Food.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute laboratory-based research aimed at identifying optimal practices for food processing applications.
  • Leverage expertise in bacteriological techniques to formulate studies that evaluate risks and mitigation strategies enhancing food safety measures.
  • Create, oversee, and disseminate extension-oriented program materials to provide technical assistance to food processors, including training sessions, written resources, and other educational tools.
  • Mentor and collaborate with undergraduate and graduate students in conducting integrated extension research within the Kinchla group.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Foster a collaborative and effective work environment that promotes teamwork, diversity, equity, and inclusivity.
  • Engage with colleagues within the College of Natural Sciences and across the campus to support the strategic priorities of the Dean.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to further the mission and objectives of the College of Natural Sciences.

Minimum Qualifications

  • PhD in Food Science or a related discipline must be obtained prior to the commencement of the position.
  • Possession of a valid U.S. driver's license.
  • Ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Capability to educate and engage in public outreach.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in outreach or public engagement.
  • Familiarity with industrial applications of food science.
  • Trained in food safety management systems such as Preventive Controls for Human Food, Seafood HACCP, Juice HACCP, or Meat & Poultry HACCP.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work in a laboratory setting with pathogenic microorganisms.

Work Environment

  • This position requires in-person engagement at the University of Massachusetts Amherst Campus.
  • Standard work hours are Monday through Friday, with flexibility to accommodate scientific research and outreach programming.

Compensation

  • Annual Salary: $52,024.00.
