Position Overview
The Postdoctoral Research Associate role is integral to advancing research and outreach initiatives focused on food safety methodologies, particularly emphasizing good manufacturing practices (GMP) and Preventive Controls for Human Food.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct laboratory-based research aimed at identifying optimal practices for food processing.
- Utilize expertise in bacteriological techniques to formulate studies that evaluate risks and develop strategies to enhance food safety protocols.
- Create, oversee, and disseminate educational materials designed to provide technical assistance to food processors, including training sessions, written resources, and other educational tools.
- Collaborate with and mentor undergraduate and graduate students in conducting integrated research within the Kinchla group.
Additional Responsibilities
- Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment that promotes teamwork and diversity.
- Engage with colleagues across the College of Natural Sciences to align with the Dean's strategic objectives.
- Perform other related duties as necessary to support the mission and goals of the College of Natural Sciences.
Minimum Qualifications
- PhD in Food Science or a closely related discipline, to be completed prior to the commencement of the position.
- Possession of a valid U.S. driver's license.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse groups of stakeholders.
- Capacity to engage in teaching and public education initiatives.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in public outreach or extension services.
- Familiarity with industrial applications within the field of food science.
- Training in food safety management systems, including Preventive Controls for Human Food, Seafood HACCP, Juice HACCP, or Meat & Poultry HACCP.
Working Conditions
- Ability to work in a laboratory setting with pathogenic microorganisms.
Work Environment
- This position requires in-person engagement at the University of Massachusetts Amherst Campus.
- Work hours are generally Monday through Friday, with flexibility to accommodate research and outreach programming.
Compensation
- Annual Salary: $52,024.00.
