Position Overview:

The Supplier Quality Engineer at Tesla plays a crucial role in the development of essential components, overseeing quality assurance, continuous enhancement, and qualification processes at supplier facilities.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Facilitate effective communication across all organizational levels, collaborating with both internal teams and external suppliers.
  • Conduct thorough failure analyses and lead statistical process control initiatives for critical components.
  • Engage in limited travel to regional suppliers, making immediate and impactful decisions on-site.

Objective:

The primary aim is to cultivate supplier capabilities by imparting best practices in manufacturing, quality assurance, and engineering. This ensures timely delivery of high-quality components to Tesla's production lines, supporting rapid development cycles and product launches while implementing lean manufacturing principles to minimize waste and enhance quality.


Responsibilities Include:
  • Ensuring supplier accountability for quality issues affecting production by effectively managing and resolving corrective actions.
  • Initiating and overseeing sorting and rework processes, managing MRB materials, and validating supplier quality checkpoints.
  • Leading cross-functional teams involving Supplier Industrial Engineering, Quality Engineering, and Design to resolve quality concerns related to electronic component vendors.
  • Collaborating with suppliers to establish both short-term containment measures and long-term corrective strategies for quality issues, including managing Supplier Corrective Action Requests (SCAR).
  • Monitoring Supplier Quality Performance on-site, collecting and analyzing data to identify failure trends, and collaborating with Engineering and Design teams.
  • Setting priorities for suppliers based on performance metrics and business requirements, while fostering positive relationships with the Supply Chain Team to manage engineering and design changes.
  • Proactively seeking opportunities to enhance processes, part quality, and overall operational efficiency.

Qualifications:

Candidates should possess a degree in Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent experience, along with a minimum of 5 years in a component or assembly plant role focused on Supplier Quality, Supplier Development, or Manufacturing Engineering.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Experience in manufacturing environments, particularly with Electronic Top Level Assembly (TLA) and PCBA processes.
  • Familiarity with high voltage systems, power electronics, and quality assurance methodologies such as PPAP/APQP.
  • Proficiency in Statistical Process Control (SPC), Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance (GD&T), and Lean Manufacturing principles.
  • Strong analytical skills with a track record of applying quality problem-solving techniques.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of conveying complex information to management and executive levels.

Compensation and Benefits:

Expected salary range is $64,800 - $237,600 annually, inclusive of cash and stock awards, with variations based on individual qualifications and market factors.
