Quality Assurance Engineer for Energy Mechanical Components

Position Overview:
As a key member of the Tesla Supplier Quality Engineering (SQE) team focusing on Energy Mechanical components, you will oversee the development, quality assurance, and lifecycle management of critical components within the supply chain.
This team is dedicated to supporting mechanical components utilized in energy storage and charging systems for both industrial and residential applications.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure supplier quality performance at Tesla facilities through daily onsite engagement to gather data, identify failure patterns, and confirm issue origins while collaborating with internal and external teams.
- Facilitate cross-functional discussions among Suppliers, Supplier Industrialization Engineering, Quality Engineering, and Designers to resolve quality challenges associated with energy mechanical components.
- Collaborate with Tesla Quality Engineering and Suppliers to issue Supplier Corrective Action Requests (SCARs), developing both immediate containment and long-term corrective measures with comprehensive follow-up management.
- Proactively drive supplier accountability for component quality issues by effectively managing SCAR-related activities, including sorting and reworking, dispositioning MRB materials, issuing chargebacks, and validating supplier corrective actions.
- Coordinate New Product Introductions (NPI), line trials, and samples with factory teams concerning design modifications, sourcing changes, and supplier requests, providing feedback to suppliers.
- Support Supplier Industrialization Engineering teams with urgent onsite assistance at supplier locations to rectify issues.
- Ensure completion of aging Tesla Qualification Process (TQP) tasks as directed by Supplier Industrialization Engineering.
- Collaborate with Quality Engineers for SCAR Verification of Effectiveness (VOE) and drive the closure of SCARs.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering, or proven experience and exceptional capability.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in supporting sheet metal, stamping, machining, or similar mechanical fabrication processes in a Supplier Quality, Quality Engineering, or Manufacturing Engineering capacity. A master's degree in the same fields with 1 year of work experience will also be considered.
- At least 1 year of experience in Quality Systems (PPAP/APQP), NPI, statistical process control (SPC), inspection methodologies, and demonstrated success in applying quality problem-solving techniques such as fishbone diagrams, hypothesis testing, Design of Experiments (DoE), and 8D.
- 1 year of experience with 3D CAD, Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), and Lean Manufacturing is advantageous.
- Strong communication skills to effectively direct supplier activities at the management level.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently, seeking opportunities to enhance processes, part quality, and overall efficiency in a dynamic environment.
- Excellent technical writing and communication skills to articulate complex issues clearly and concisely.
