Job Summary

The American Red Cross is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Regional Disaster Officer to oversee the implementation of disaster cycle services programming throughout the region. As a key member of our disaster response team, you will be responsible for empowering volunteers, leading the program, and engaging communities to prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters and emergencies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Empower Volunteers: Direct a team of employees and volunteers responsible for implementing disaster services programming throughout the region. Ensure disaster services are delivered in a rapid, accessible, and equitable manner to meet the urgent needs of our clients.
  • Lead the Program: Oversee the successful implementation of the disaster cycle services program in alignment with our Fundamental Principles and established program standards.
  • Mission Capacity Building: Champion and drive the development of regional Disaster Leadership Volunteers to meet specific responsibilities in disaster readiness, preparedness, response, and recovery.
  • Engage Community: Lead regional efforts to prepare and mobilize communities and engage partners to prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters and emergencies.
  • Manage in a Matrix: Build relationships and collaborate with internal partners, including employees and volunteers, in a matrix management environment.
  • Know Your Communities: Act as the regional disaster leader and Red Cross disaster subject matter expert, with a deep understanding of the communities we serve.
  • Ready to Respond: Initiate, scale, coordinate, and manage disaster relief operations in the region in alignment with our Disaster Cycle Services Concept of Operations.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree required, or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • Experience: Minimum 7 years of related experience, with 5 years of management experience of paid or volunteer workforce.
  • Valid Drivers License

  • Excellent Interpersonal Skills: Strong ability to build relationships and collaborate with diverse groups and individuals.
  • Verbal and Written Communication: Excellent communication skills, with the ability to interpret program trends and results.
  • Decision-Making: Demonstrated analytical and decision-making skills to formulate recommendations and develop creative processes for continuous program or service improvements.
  • Microsoft Office: Intermediate level proficiency with Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Deployment: Ability to work outside of regular duty hours, including nights and weekends, and deploy to disaster relief operations outside of the region at a minimum of once a year.
