The Senior Security Officer is responsible for performing advanced security operations.

This role represents the highest level of security personnel and assists the Security Supervisor in achieving departmental objectives.

Responsibilities include monitoring premises, conducting preliminary investigations, and offering guidance to patients, staff, and visitors.

Additional duties may involve temporary switchboard operations, such as managing the hospital's telephone system, fire alarm, and emergency response lines.

This position operates with minimal supervision, allowing for significant initiative and independent decision-making.

Other responsibilities may include participating in disaster response and recovery efforts or supporting Continuity of Operations (COOP) initiatives, which may require flexible scheduling or location assignments.

Key Responsibilities:

Regular attendance is essential, and you may be required to adhere to a specific shift schedule, including rotating shifts or overtime as per agency policies.


Monitor hospital grounds to identify and address unusual activities, including trespassing, vandalism, and emergencies.
Oversee and guide the daily operations and performance of junior security staff as necessary.

Adjust the daily tasks of security personnel to ensure departmental goals are met according to the directives of the security supervisor based on available resources.


Ensure the safety of the hospital campus. Open gates as needed and provide assistance to visitors. Conduct thorough inspections of buildings, properties, and equipment. Document incidents and events occurring on hospital grounds.

Perform temporary switchboard duties as required.

Respond to calls and manage communications via dispatch (switchboard), fire alarm systems, and emergency response lines.


Monitor access points to prevent unauthorized exits. Investigate and document incidents such as thefts, fires, vehicle accidents, and other unusual occurrences.

In the absence of the Security Supervisor, handle administrative tasks such as scheduling and report reviews.

Represent the security department in meetings and events as directed by the Security Supervisor or Directors.

Respond to fire alarms, assess the situation, and reset alarms as necessary.

During actual fire emergencies, assist the fire department to ensure safe access and minimize impact on the hospital, staff, and patients.

Provide crisis intervention when needed, assisting staff in managing disruptive individuals and escorting them off the premises.


Operate state vehicles for transporting patients, employees, and visitors as required.

Maintain inspection records to ensure vehicles are safe and well-maintained.

Perform additional duties as assigned, including participating in disaster response and recovery efforts or supporting COOP initiatives, which may necessitate flexible scheduling or location assignments.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Familiarity with alarm systems.

Understanding of traffic and parking regulations.

Knowledge of emergency response protocols.

Strong interpersonal skills for effective communication with patients, staff, and the public.

Proficient written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to create clear security incident reports.

Capability to patrol grounds, identify incidents, and take appropriate action.

Ability to remain calm and respond effectively in emergencies.

Physical capability to stand or walk for extended periods.

Valid driver's license and ability to operate a wheelchair van.
