Position Overview:
This role entails overseeing daily operations within the Laboratory, including staff scheduling and process management, ensuring quality, cost-effectiveness, and patient satisfaction. You will also perform specific management tasks as assigned by the Department Manager or Lab Director.

In the absence of the Manager, you will represent the Laboratory and provide appropriate patient care tailored to the age and needs of the patient population served.

Key Responsibilities:
Memorial Hermann Southwest Campus is seeking a Lead Clinical Laboratory Specialist to become a part of our Microbiology and Molecular Biology team. Strong leadership abilities are essential for this position.

  • Minimum Qualifications:
    Bachelor's degree in a Biological Science (equivalent qualifications accepted for foreign education).
  • Licenses/Certifications:
    Medical Technologist (ASCP) or Medical Technologist (AMT), Certified CLS (ASCP or ASCP-International) or Certified MLS (ASCP or ASCP-International).
  • Experience / Knowledge / Skills:
    Five (5) years of experience in a high-complexity clinical laboratory in the designated area, demonstrating leadership capabilities. Completion of competency in the assigned area within one (1) year of assuming this role.

Principal Accountabilities:
Oversee, assess, perform, and document test results, quality control, maintenance procedures, and related corrective actions in accordance with established policies and procedures. Maintain and evaluate technical procedures relevant to the department/facility, ensuring competency requirements are met and exceeded for all workstations. Author procedures and demonstrate proficiency in laboratory information systems.

Support system and hospital customer service initiatives by recognizing customer satisfaction issues and responding appropriately. Foster effective relationships with colleagues and develop collaborative working relationships with all customers, seeking input and implementing mutually beneficial corrective actions.

Possess a comprehensive understanding of quality processes and utilize quality techniques and principles effectively. Serve as a resource for performance improvement and participate in quality teams and system laboratory service technical teams.

Act as a resource for other staff members, possessing advanced knowledge and experience in specific analytical techniques, processes, and laboratory information systems. Oversee designated laboratory processes and assist in the development and validation of laboratory tests and assays under the guidance of the Departmental Manager or Lab Director.

Ensure safe care for patients, staff, and visitors by adhering to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards, while managing time, supplies, productivity, and service quality within budgetary constraints.

Encourage personal professional growth and development by fulfilling requirements for mandatory and continuing education, supporting department-based goals that contribute to the organization's success. Serve as a mentor and resource for less experienced staff members.
