Position Summary:
The Clinical Laboratory Specialist will play a crucial role in the laboratory operations, ensuring efficient and accurate testing processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage inventory levels of laboratory supplies and equipment, coordinating the procurement of necessary chemicals and reagents.
  • Exhibit proficiency in compliance with Joint Commission, COLA, CLIA, CMS, OSHA, HIPAA, and EPA standards, ensuring high-quality laboratory practices.
  • Safeguard patient confidentiality and uphold ethical standards in all laboratory activities.
  • Continuously enhance personal laboratory knowledge and skill set.
  • Deliver patient care that prioritizes safety and well-being across all hospital and clinic departments.
  • Align with the hospital's mission and objectives, fostering a supportive environment for patients and staff.
  • Encourage positive interactions with patients and colleagues, contributing to a collaborative laboratory atmosphere.
  • Participate in training and orientation for new personnel, sharing expertise and best practices.
  • Assist in the development and revision of laboratory policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Support infection control measures and adhere to safety protocols.

Pre-Analytic Duties:

  • Communicate effectively with patients and healthcare professionals regarding specimen collection and processing.
  • Ensure accurate patient identification and specimen labeling.
  • Engage in specimen collection through venipuncture or instruct others in proper collection techniques.
  • Prepare specimens for external laboratory analysis, following appropriate safety measures.

Analytic Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with laboratory staff to conduct thorough specimen analysis.
  • Implement quality control measures to guarantee the accuracy of test results.
  • Participate in on-call duties to meet laboratory needs outside of regular hours.

Post-Analytic Tasks:

  • Oversee the performance and interpretation of complex laboratory tests, documenting results for review by medical staff.
  • Maintain precise and clear documentation of laboratory activities, including quality control and maintenance records.
  • Address any deviations from established testing protocols promptly and effectively.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
  • Strong knowledge in Blood Bank, Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, and Urinalysis.
  • Ability to perform complex testing and interpret results accurately.
  • Familiarity with laboratory accreditation requirements (COLA, CLIA, CLIP).
  • Proficient in laboratory equipment and computerized systems.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Must demonstrate normal color vision as per screening requirements.

Education:

  • Relevant scientific degree with clinical laboratory training or equivalent experience.
  • Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to perform tasks in a typical office environment, including prolonged sitting and standing.
  • May involve lifting and moving objects up to 15 lbs.
