Job Overview

The role of a Medical Laboratory Specialist is crucial in the healthcare field, particularly within the Army National Guard. This position involves conducting essential tests on tissue, blood, and other bodily fluids to identify and diagnose diseases.

As a Medical Laboratory Specialist, you will be responsible for performing clinical analyses that healthcare professionals rely on to diagnose, treat, and prevent illnesses.


In this capacity, your duties will include examining blood and bone marrow samples, testing for infectious agents, and analyzing various specimens for diagnostic insights.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute fundamental blood banking and clinical laboratory procedures across various disciplines including hematology, immunohematology, clinical chemistry, serology, bacteriology, parasitology, and urinalysis.
  • Collect blood samples through venipuncture and capillary methods.
  • Manage the packing, unpacking, inspection, storage, and distribution of blood products.
  • Assemble, disassemble, and maintain laboratory apparatus.

Through comprehensive training, you will acquire the expertise necessary for a rewarding civilian career in private laboratories, hospitals, clinics, or research facilities. Certifications available post-training include medical laboratory technician, cytotechnologist, and clinical laboratory technician, contingent upon meeting specific educational requirements.

Compensation and Training

Instead of incurring costs for training, you will receive compensation while you learn.

In the Army National Guard, you will gain valuable skills while earning a steady income and qualifying for educational assistance.


Your training as a Medical Laboratory Specialist will encompass 10 weeks of Basic Training to develop foundational Soldiering skills, followed by 52 weeks of Advanced Individual Training, which includes both classroom instruction and practical fieldwork.

Requirements:
