Ideal candidates will demonstrate strong analytical skills, possess project management experience, and exhibit excellent interpersonal abilities while showing a keen interest in applying complex hydrologic, hydraulic, and safety models to support dam safety risk assessments.

This role can be performed from any of RTI's offices or through remote work options.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create Emergency Action Plans and associated mapping.
  • Establish routines for dataset pre-processing.
  • Conduct internal reviews of models and technical documentation.
  • Mentor and train junior engineers.
  • Draft technical procedure documents and project reports.
  • Manage projects and provide client support.
  • Assist in proposal development.
Qualifications

Applicants should possess a B.S. in Civil Engineering or a related discipline with a focus on Water Resources and a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience; or an M.S. in Civil Engineering or a related field with a focus on Water Resources and at least 6 years of applicable experience; or a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering or a related field with a focus on Water Resources and a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience.

Candidates must have a comprehensive understanding of hydrology and hydraulics (HEC-RAS) in large, intricate watersheds, including river systems managed under various competing objectives. A proven track record of supporting client goals and working efficiently is essential.

Strong interpersonal skills are required, along with experience in developing and applying hydrologic, hydraulic, consequence, and reservoir operation models (HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, HEC-ResSim, HEC-LifeSim).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience as a lead in model development resulting in high-quality deliverables.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and devise solutions related to data constraints and complex modeling scenarios involving interactions between hydrologic, hydraulic, and reservoir models.
  • Experience in developing and calibrating extensive regional hydrologic and HEC-RAS models, with proficiency in accurately placing hydraulic model geometry components in complex terrains.
  • Understanding of flood routing dynamics for significant flood events and dam breach scenarios, including dynamic reservoir routing.
  • Expertise in reservoir modeling, including the development of operational guidelines and outlet rating curves for large dams.
  • Support for Dam Safety Risk Assessments.
  • Experience with scripting to enhance GIS and modeling initiatives is a plus.
