Position Overview
The Senior Vice President for Enrollment Strategy and Student Achievement (SVP ESSA) plays a crucial role in furthering the strategic objectives of Virginia Commonwealth University, an institution committed to enhancing the student experience; fostering sustainable enrollment growth; reducing the time to degree completion; and improving student retention, engagement, graduation rates, and post-graduation success.
Reporting directly to the provost, the SVP ESSA is an integral member of the president's cabinet and the senior leadership team. This role is tasked with advocating for comprehensive, cohesive, and holistic strategies that promote student access and success, emphasizing academic and organizational excellence. In alignment with the University's mission, vision, and core values, the SVP ESSA will provide strategic, data-driven, and equity-focused leadership to develop and implement effective recruitment and student support initiatives, programs, and services that:
- Foster the ongoing development of data-driven, technology-enhanced, innovative practices.
- Promote and enhance student success.
- Ensure a steadfast commitment to increasing access to higher education.
- Enrich the culture of care for both students and staff.
Key Responsibilities
The responsibilities of this position encompass, but are not limited to:
- Formulating and executing annual and long-term enrollment management strategies that align with and support the University's strategic objectives, while fostering collaborative partnerships in the development of enrollment strategies across academic schools and colleges.
- Advancing institutional goals related to enrollment, net revenue, discount targets, academic quality, and retention and graduation metrics.
- Building strong relationships with campus stakeholders (e.g., deans, academic departments, student support services) to provide innovative leadership in enhancing student outreach, enrollment, retention, and graduation.
- Collaborating with marketing and communications divisions and senior leadership to develop a comprehensive marketing strategy that supports enrollment and student success objectives.
- Establishing and maintaining effective partnerships with academic and student affairs and other departments across the University.
- Overseeing the analysis and utilization of data related to student enrollment trends in collaboration with institutional research and budget offices.
- Working closely with institutional research to identify enrollment trends and develop effective recruitment and financial aid strategies based on statistical analysis.
- Ensuring the delivery of high-quality programs and services through effective leadership and outcome assessment.
- Managing complex operations and financial resources while ensuring compliance with applicable policies.
- Serving as a public advocate for student access and success, fostering strong relationships with prospective and current students, parents, corporate partners, and the University board.

- A Master's degree is required; candidates with a terminal degree will be preferred.
