MI Healthy Climate Corps:

Become a part of the MI Healthy Climate Corps (MHC Corps) and contribute to Michigan's journey towards a sustainable future. The MHC Corps enhances Michigan's climate initiatives through capacity building and leadership development. Members engage throughout the state to support the MI Healthy Climate Plan's (MHCP) objective of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. This plan aims to mitigate the severe effects of climate change, create quality employment opportunities, and establish Michigan as a leader in climate action while fostering a healthier, more equitable, and sustainable environment for all residents.

The Community Economic Development Association of Michigan (CEDAM) is dedicated to empowering communities and enhancing economic opportunities across the state. By collaborating with local stakeholders, CEDAM focuses on innovative strategies that promote community growth and resilience, ensuring that all Michiganders have access to the resources and support they need to thrive.

MHC Corps Member Role and Responsibilities:
  • As part of the Michigan Growth Office, the MHC Corps Member will spearhead climate-focused research to inform initiatives aimed at attracting and retaining young talent, positioning Michigan as a leader in climate action and innovation.
  • Building on previous research, the member will assess existing climate relocation programs and expand them to draw a new generation of climate professionals and entrepreneurs to Michigan.
  • Utilizing insights from economic development, marketing, and migration trends, the member will formulate recommendations for a climate relocation strategy that enhances Michigan's climate initiatives.
  • Facilitate community access to federal and state climate resources by organizing meetings, educational programs, and other activities to disseminate information effectively.
  • Engage in shared learning and collaboration activities with fellow MHC Corps members, including in-person convenings and virtual training sessions.
  • Conduct community input sessions to gather feedback and further the objectives of the MI Healthy Climate Plan.
Evaluation and Reporting:
  • Members will undergo a Mid-year Performance Evaluation during their term.
  • Additional reporting requirements include bi-weekly timesheets, monthly data reports, and quarterly narrative reports.
Preferred Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess a strong interest or background in environmental issues, coalition building, community organizing, and communications. Essential skills include strong verbal and written communication, attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively. Familiarity with Microsoft Office and Google Applications is also required.

No specific background or education is mandated to join the MHC Corps

However, a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience is crucial for success:

  • Experience facilitating meetings with seasoned professionals.
  • Ability to work independently without constant supervision.
  • Proven track record of overcoming challenges in professional settings.
  • Experience managing multiple professional relationships.
  • Willingness to work outside standard hours to attend community events.
  • Capability to learn new software quickly in a fast-paced environment.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Reside in Michigan.
  • Ability to travel for in-person MHC Corps convenings statewide.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age and possess a high school diploma, GED, or be actively pursuing one.
  • U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or lawful permanent resident of the U.S.
  • Pass required National Service Criminal History Checks.
Compensation:

Members will receive a living allowance of $35,200, distributed bi-weekly. Additional benefits include student loan forbearance for qualified loans, health care benefits, child care assistance (if eligible), and ongoing professional development opportunities. Upon successful completion of service, an education award of $7,395 will be granted. Members are expected to serve approximately 40 hours per week (totaling 1,700 hours during the service term).
