The Reinsurance Division is tasked with overseeing both ceded and assumed reinsurance activities within the organization, alongside associated analytics that encompass geo-spatial risk assessment, catastrophe modeling, and event reporting related to catastrophes. This role involves the execution of the organization's treaties, which includes system configuration, interdepartmental collaboration, preparation of submissions, negotiation of contracts and terms, management of treaty documentation, and adherence to compliance and control protocols. The position requires collaboration with brokers, intermediaries, and reinsurers to facilitate the placement and acceptance of reinsurance agreements. Analytical and critical thinking skills are essential to identify risks encountered by business units and to devise appropriate reinsurance solutions.
  • Lead the negotiation and placement of treaty reinsurance agreements, serving as the primary contact for external brokers, intermediaries, and reinsurers.
  • Collaborate with internal legal counsel specializing in reinsurance to ensure that agreement language aligns with established terms and conditions, confirming that all parties have consented to the terms before seeking binding approval.
  • Engage with leaders of business units to comprehend risks and leverage reinsurance as a risk mitigation tool.
  • Negotiate and secure optimal terms for reinsurance contracts.
  • Develop presentations and documentation that articulate the reinsurance placement strategy and objectives.
  • Oversee and facilitate periodic audits by reinsurers and manage data requests.
  • Represent the company at industry events, engaging with brokers, agency partners, and reinsurers.
  • Support the monitoring of catastrophe risk and aggregation management, with an understanding of AM Best's perspectives and their implications on BCAR.
  • Take on advanced special projects as required.
  • Assist in conducting internal pricing analyses for reinsurance purchasing decisions, providing valuable insights that enable management to make informed business choices.
  • Possess a solid understanding of catastrophe modeling and its impact on perils, geographies, and return periods.
  • Effectively convey complex reinsurance topics to various audiences, including internal stakeholders and executive leadership.
  • Conduct comprehensive analyses related to reinsurance purchases, covering aspects such as received quotes, quoting behavior, treaty structures, year-over-year changes in treaty costs, and contract interpretation.
  • Mentor and evaluate the work of reinsurance analysts and placement leads.
Qualifications
  • A Bachelor's degree is required, preferably in business or a related field within insurance.
  • A minimum of six years of experience in reinsurance is required, or a combination of six years in either property and casualty experience and reinsurance may be considered.
  • Preferred completion of Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) or Associate in Reinsurance (ARe) designations.
  • Strong knowledge of property and casualty insurance, along with an understanding of reinsurance principles, practices, and products.
  • Ability to communicate information clearly and concisely, present ideas, report facts, and respond to inquiries effectively.
  • Strong presentation skills and the confidence to represent the company and its products in both individual and small group settings.
  • Ability to apply logical thinking to define problems, gather data, establish facts, and draw conclusions.
  • Ability to build rapport with opposing parties and resolve conflicts professionally.
  • Capacity to mentor and train reinsurance leads.
  • Expertise in reinsurance contract structures and terms.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of insurance principles and practices, including reinsurance, underwriting, marketing guidelines, and claims processes.
  • Familiarity with GAAP and SAP accounting, along with an understanding of financial data.
  • Ability to create reinsurance pro-forma structures with minimal guidance.

Pay Range - Actual compensation decisions are based on considerations of internal equity, candidate skills and experience, geographic location, market conditions, and other relevant factors. It is not standard practice for an offer to be at or near the top of the range, and a reasonable estimate for this role is between $90,400 and $151,500.
