POSITION OVERVIEW

The Entry-Level Accountant will engage in a range of foundational accounting tasks, including the preparation, analysis, review, maintenance, reconciliation, and oversight of financial records, as well as forecasting fiscal revenues and expenditures for various health programs.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Conducts diverse accounting tasks associated with departmental financial activities throughout the annual accounting cycle, including the establishment and upkeep of accounting records, transaction classification, trial balance preparation, and end-of-period adjustments.
  • Handles accounts payable, accounts receivable, and capital asset accounting.
  • Compiles, analyzes, and reconciles various financial transactions, statements, and reports.
  • Assists in the preparation of complex financial reports and schedules, including revenue statements and balance sheets.
  • Participates in cost surveys, revenue analyses, and other accounting studies, contributing to the documentation of findings.
  • Supports the audit process for grant-related expenditures, ensuring proper use and coding while compiling expenditure data and reports.
  • Conducts research to clarify the accounting requirements of relevant laws and regulations.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Proficient in Excel, Access, and the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Strong analytical capabilities.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate across various functions.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or a related field, with completion of 21 semester or 32 quarter units of accounting coursework from an accredited institution, including at least two advanced accounting courses such as auditing, cost accounting, or governmental accounting.
CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES
  • Successful completion of the Live Scan process with the County of Los Angeles.
  • A valid California Class C Driver License or the capacity to utilize alternative transportation methods as needed for job-related functions.
ADDITIONAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Understanding of general accounting principles, cost accounting, and fund accounting.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and analytical skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.
