About the Role

Cleveland Clinic is seeking a highly skilled Clinical Risk Management Specialist to join our team. As a Clinical Risk Management Specialist, you will play a critical role in managing the organization's daily risk management program.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the organization's daily risk management program, including identifying and mitigating potential risks.
  • Assist in managing the assigned Clinical Risk Management (CRM) program on a day-to-day basis.
  • Take a lead role in mentoring and developing new CRM team members.
  • Collaborate with leadership throughout the enterprise to develop and maintain an effective CCHS CRM infrastructure.
  • Conduct and facilitate Root Cause Analyses (RCA) to identify root causes and causal factors of events.
  • Identify organizational risk through RCA trend analysis, themes, and patterns, and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Facilitate the implementation of standardized and highly reliable processes.
  • Prepare professional reports and documentation required for CRM role on a timely basis.
  • Work collaboratively with Institute/Hospital, Patient Safety, Quality, and Patient Experience team members throughout the enterprise as partners in safety.
  • Serve as a mentor/preceptor for new team members.
  • Assist with coaching healthcare providers or facility leaders regarding unanticipated outcomes.
  • Identify and effectively communicate with members of the Law and Enterprise Risk and Insurance (ERI) Departments regarding potential quality of care, safety, patient experience, regulatory, and insurance concerns.
  • Follow-up with patients and families when appropriate and work proactively toward early resolution with other appropriate parties as necessary.
  • Serve as a resource for risk-related issues/information to facilitate adherence to standards, policies, rules, and regulations.
  • Participate in Enterprise Committees representing Clinical Risk Management.
  • Develop, present education sessions upon request or with identified need.
  • Maintain visibility in the organization.
  • Participate in Institute/Hospital Committees representing Clinical Risk Management and lead committees or projects related to risk mitigation or improving patient safety.
  • On-call responsibilities to provide 24/7 CRM consultation coverage per established CRM department process.
Requirements
  • Registered Nursing licensure preferred.
  • Other licensed clinicians will be considered with commensurate education, knowledge & skills, and acquired work experience.
  • Master's or other advanced degree strongly preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree with at least seven years of CRM experience will be considered.
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) or other healthcare discipline licensure strongly preferred.
  • Current certification as Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management required.
  • Current FASHRM, DFASHRM, CPPS or CPHQ certification, or other advanced education in the field of quality preferred.
  • Minimum five years clinical experience required.
  • Leadership experience preferred.
  • Minimum five years of experience in Clinical Risk Management; other field-related experience with commensurate education, knowledge & skills, and acquired work experience will be considered.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully fill lead CRM role and supervisory responsibilities.
  • Strong effective communication and influencing skills with proven ability to collaborate with leadership throughout the enterprise.
  • Strong critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work in a stressful environment, take appropriate actions, and have demonstrated ability to work as an effective team member.
