Position Overview:

This position is accountable for overseeing operational risk management activities tailored to corporate functions within Legal and Finance. Responsibilities include providing guidance, evaluating, and constructively challenging all operational risks and their mitigations, assessing their implications on risk appetite, as well as the strategic objectives of the organization. This role entails collaborating with business line leaders, control leaders, and other second and third line leaders, including compliance and internal audit teams. You will partner with various corporate and non-financial risk leaders to ensure the successful application of enterprise and operational risk frameworks, while driving an effective challenge process. A key to success in this role is delivering a robust second line of defense, which includes monitoring, testing, and conducting operational risk evaluations to uphold strong risk management practices and a solid control environment.

Additionally, you will be expected to engage, influence, and lead stakeholders at all organizational levels, escalate risks as necessary, actively participate in governance and management committees, and may interact with regulators alongside management. This role may also involve participation in cross-functional Non-Financial Risk department initiatives and ad hoc reporting to senior management regarding operational risks. In fulfilling these responsibilities, the Senior Specialist is anticipated to work closely with colleagues across Operational Risk Oversight, Non-Financial Risk Management, Corporate Risk Management, and other business lines and corporate functions. You will proactively manage and escalate risk and customer-impacting issues within your daily responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement a risk-based strategy for independent risk evaluations and oversight for the business, ensuring effective monitoring and leveraging insights from Non-Financial Risk Management Testing to foster a strong risk and control environment.
  • Provide operational risk advisory services and constructive challenges for programs across Non-Financial Risk initiatives.
  • Engage with business leaders in governance to cultivate a culture of effective risk management.
  • Prepare and present status reports on program initiatives, activities, and non-financial risks to management and committees, highlighting concerns and achievements.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration or management.
  • 6+ years of experience in Law, Risk, or Operations.
  • 3+ years in a first or second-line risk, control, or compliance role within a highly regulated financial institution.
  • Alternatively, 10+ years of risk management experience in a regulated financial or depository environment, focusing on operational risk management, internal audit, or related fields.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of risk management experience in a financial setting, with an emphasis on operational risk management or internal audit.

Compensation:

The base salary for this role typically ranges between $88,500.00 to $149,000. Additional incentives may be included as part of a competitive total compensation package. Various factors, including geographical location, relevant experience, education, and skill level, may influence the salary for this position.
