Your Responsibilities:

Prioritize Safety. Take initiative in ensuring safety for yourself and your colleagues throughout operations, adhering to MSHA and Vulcan standards.

Identify Environmental Obligations. Evaluate various environmental mandates, including permits, plans, and regulatory obligations, to ascertain their relevance to our operations. Develop and uphold a compliance framework that clearly communicates plant responsibilities for each compliance initiative.

Represent Vulcan on Environmental Issues. Proactively build relationships with regulatory agencies concerning new legislation, regulations, and compliance challenges.

Engage in state and local trade associations and collaborate with our Government and Community Relations team on community initiatives.

Collaborate with Operations and Sales. Assist local plant operations and sales teams, as well as Division leaders. Educate staff on necessary behaviors and actions for environmental compliance. Develop environmental solutions that align with business needs, identify environmental risks, and create strategies to mitigate their effects. Oversee the engagement of consultants to enhance returns and reduce expenses.

Conduct Inspections and Audits.

Perform regular inspections and audits to evaluate regulatory and environmental management compliance, control significant environmental risks, and ensure the effectiveness of environmental management systems.

Utilize findings to pinpoint areas for enhancement.

Complete Compliance Support Activities. Prepare and submit permit applications, modifications, and renewals. Draft and maintain plans (SPCC, SWPPP, fugitive dust, etc.). Monitor and fulfill reporting obligations (discharges, stormwater, emissions, TRI, etc.) and manage recordkeeping duties.

Additional Responsibilities. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Essential Skills:

Education. A bachelor's degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Geology, Biology, Mining, or a related technical field is preferred. An advanced degree in environmental studies is advantageous.

Experience. Relevant experience in the environmental sector is essential.

Hands-on experience in reviewing regulatory requirements, assessing their relevance and impact in the field, and coaching personnel is required.

Regulatory Knowledge.

Expertise in environmental regulatory compliance is necessary, along with the ability to review regulatory requirements and assess their relevance and impact in the field.

Strong knowledge of federal and state environmental regulatory processes and experience in environmental regulatory areas (RCRA, CWA, CAA, TSCA, etc.) is required.

Interpersonal Skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential. Ability to interact effectively with personnel at all levels is required.

Technology Skills. Proficiency in using computerized equipment and technology is necessary. Must demonstrate competence in Microsoft Office Suite, Google, Oracle Business Environment, and other relevant software packages.
