Job Title: Vice President, Environmental Health & Safety

Reports To: Mark Wallace, Sr. VP Operations

GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB:

The Vice President of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) will collaborate with executive leaders, plant managers, and Ox Safety & EHS team members as well as employees across a variety of workplaces such as: offices, converting facilities, and paper mills. They will develop and execute strategic plans with the goal of infusing a culture of Environmental Health and Safety across all businesses. Extensive travel to all Ox locations is required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to:

  • Lead the development and implementation of consistent companywide EHS policies, procedures, standards, strategies and goals which meet or exceed local, state, and OSHA rules and regulations.
  • Collaborate with and direct Ox Safety and EHS personnel establishing goals, providing guidance, and ensuring effectiveness.
  • Communicate with appropriate regulatory agencies and ensure regulatory compliance, as it applies to EHS, and serve as the primary contact on all EHS matters.
  • Establish regular effective communications with site managers and throughout the organization to encourage a unified approach to safety policies and programs.
  • Develop strong partnerships with leaders across the organization, soliciting feedback and understanding key priorities and policies. Facilitate communication between team members and create a culture of respect.
  • Seek new and innovative ways to create and improve environmentally compliant work practices and standards to protect the safety of the company's employees and assets.
  • Coordinate and conduct audit and training programs, including effective documentation, recordkeeping, and continuous improvement.
  • Prepare executive level communications, including safety data statistics by location, capital project requests, and status updates.
  • Promote worker health and safety and prevent workplace injuries by identifying and eliminating workplace hazards. Demonstrate a commitment to employee participation, training and education, and continuous program improvement.
  • Evaluate and provide guidance on major projects (e.g., plant layout changes, installation of capital equipment, major repairs, etc.) in order to maintain safety standards.
  • Lead by example, performing tasks and taking on projects as necessary to ensure that goals are met and the team is successful.
  • Work effectively and relate well with others. Exhibit a professional manner, working to maintain constructive working relationships.

Skills and Abilities Required: Proven ability to partner with corporate teams such as: Legal, Human Resources, Finance, and Operations. This position requires a high level of professionalism at all times while maintaining a collegial and effective relationship with employees and managers at all levels.

Experience and Education: A Bachelor’s Degree in a related field and 10 years’ experience with EHS in a manufacturing environment preferred. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of state and local laws and regulations as well as US Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules.
