Custodian - Facilities Maintenance

This role is responsible for performing a wide variety of tasks related to cleaning and unskilled building maintenance, event set-ups, and animal and insect control within the Dartmouth College facilities.
Key Responsibilities- Under supervision, performs cleaning and unskilled building maintenance tasks, including medium to heavy lifting activities, inside and outside various college facilities.
- Implements recycling procedures and ensures compliance with environmental regulations.
- Performs major set-ups and break-downs for college events, including setting up tables, chairs, and other equipment.
- Cleans light fixtures and replaces light bulbs, using a step ladder as necessary.
- Sweeps dirt and leaves and shovels snow from walkways and spreads sand on walkways at least 3 feet from all entrances to buildings.
- Traps and releases rodents and sprays chemicals to control insects.
- Notifies the Squad Leader when more materials are needed or when equipment is in need of repair or replacement.
- One year of experience related to custodial work.
- Ability to operate and maintain heavy industrial cleaning equipment and other hand-operated tools.
- Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to perform moderate to heavy physical labor, including lifting and carrying light to medium weight objects.
- Commitment to diversity and to serving the needs of a diverse community.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with others.
- Must successfully complete the following training prior to performing work to which the training relates: Hazard Communication, Blood Borne Pathogens.
This role requires working in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions and deadlines. The ability to work independently and as part of a team is essential. The role also requires the ability to lift and carry heavy objects, work at heights, and work in confined spaces.
