Job Summary

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Patient Service Representative to join our team at Christus Health. As a Patient Service Representative, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our medical office, providing exceptional patient care and support to our patients and their families.

Key Responsibilities
  • Greets Patients and Visitors: Greet patients and visitors in a prompt, courteous, and helpful manner, ensuring a positive first impression of our medical office.
  • Verifies Patient Information: Verify and update patient information in our medical records, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Schedules Appointments: Schedule appointments and manage patient flow, ensuring timely and efficient service.
  • Processes Payments: Process payments and manage cash handling, ensuring accuracy and security.
  • Refers Patients to Financial Counselor: Refer patients to our financial counselor for clarification or discussion of account and/or payment terms.
  • Maintains Office Scheduling Policies: Maintain and follow office scheduling policies, ensuring efficient and effective use of resources.
  • Answers Telephone and Screens Calls: Answer telephone calls, screen calls, and take messages, providing excellent customer service.
  • Types Correspondence: Type correspondence as directed, ensuring accuracy and professionalism.
  • Maintains Work Area and Lobby: Maintain a neat and orderly work area and lobby, ensuring a positive and welcoming environment for patients and visitors.
  • Attends Meetings: Attend meetings as required, participating in discussions and contributing to decision-making.
  • Follows HIPAA Guidelines: Follow CHRISTUS Health guidelines related to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), ensuring confidentiality and security of patient information.
  • Maintains Confidentiality: Maintain strict confidentiality, ensuring the security and integrity of patient information.
  • Communicates Effectively: Use oral and written communication skills to effectively convey ideas in a clear, positive manner, consistent with the CHRISTUS Mission.
  • Maintains Established Policies: Maintain established CHRISTUS Health policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental, and infection control.
  • Supports CHRISTUS Service Guarantee: Support and adhere to the CHRISTUS Service Guarantee, ensuring exceptional patient care and service.
Requirements
  • Education/Skills: High school diploma or equivalent, with knowledge of medical terminology desirable.
  • Word Processing and Computer Experience: Word processing and computer experience, with ability to operate 10-key calculator by touch, telephone, computer, copier, and fax machine.
  • Excellent Interpersonal Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate well, with ability to type 40 wpm preferred.
  • Experience: Prefer one-year work experience, preferably in a medical office setting.
