Overview:

Welcomes, guides, and organizes patients and visitors. Acts as a bridge between patients and healthcare personnel. May assist with various tasks within the facility. Confirms insurance coverage and aids in referral processes. Collects payments and prepares cash for banking.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Welcomes patients and visitors in a timely, courteous, and supportive manner.
  • Registers patients, verifies and updates essential information in the medical records; inputs patient demographics and insurance details into the system. Aids patients in completing necessary documentation. Assists patients with mobility challenges. Alerts clinical staff when a patient is prepared for consultation.
  • Responsible for maintaining appropriate cash levels and balancing the cash drawer according to company protocols.
  • Processes payments received from patients and records them in the company billing system.
  • Directs patients to financial counseling representatives for clarification or discussion regarding their accounts and/or payment options, adhering to the collections policy.
  • Collaborates with other staff to collect outstanding balances at the time of service.
  • Adheres to office scheduling policies.
  • Answers phone calls, screens inquiries, takes messages, and provides information as needed.
  • Composes correspondence as instructed. Sorts and distributes mail, medical records, and other communications.
  • Screens visitors and addresses routine requests for information.
  • Keeps work area and reception area tidy and organized.
  • Attends required meetings.
  • Complies with CHRISTUS Health guidelines related to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), aimed at preventing unauthorized disclosure of Protected Health Information (PHI).
  • Maintains strict confidentiality at all times.
  • Utilizes verbal and written communication skills to effectively express ideas in a clear, positive manner consistent with the CHRISTUS Mission.
  • Upholds established CHRISTUS Health policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
  • Executes job responsibilities in alignment with the CHRISTUS Mission and Code of Ethics, supporting CHRISTUS Health's commitment to cultural diversity.
  • Supports and adheres to the CHRISTUS Service Guarantee.
  • Performs additional related tasks as assigned by management.

Qualifications:

Education/Skills:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology is preferred.
  • Proficient in word processing and computer applications.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and effective communication abilities.
  • Highly organized with the capacity to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. Experience in professional medical records documentation and writing is preferred.
  • Proficient in operating a 10-key calculator by touch, telephone, computer, copier, and fax machine.
  • Typing speed of 40 words per minute is preferred.

Experience:

  • Preferred one year of experience, ideally in a medical office environment.

Work Schedule:

Standard business hours, Monday through Friday.
