The role encompasses various procedural obligations such as data collection, insurance verification, service authorization, and collection of patient payments, including any outstanding balances. The Healthcare Access team is vital in securing the financial viability of patient services while ensuring compliance with federal regulations, accreditation standards, and health department guidelines. Effective communication with patients, families, healthcare providers, insurance companies, and third-party payers is essential. This role demands professionalism, strong communication abilities, and excellent organizational skills, along with dependability, adaptability, and a collaborative spirit.
Key Responsibilities:
• Ensure accurate input of all necessary data for scheduling and registration, including patient demographics, financial details, guarantor information, and relevant encounter notes.
• Confirm insurance eligibility and secure required authorizations for provided services.
• Calculate and collect estimated patient payments based on benefits and contractual agreements, as well as any prior balances.
• Conduct financial assessments to determine eligibility for assistance programs.
• Clearly communicate the purpose of and obtain signatures from patients or legal guardians on all required hospital documentation.
• Represent the Healthcare Access department with professionalism and courtesy at all times.
• Assist the hospital during internal or external emergencies as needed.
• Adapt to the department's needs to manage patient volume effectively, which may involve reassignment to different areas or shifts.
• Contribute to achieving departmental performance goals.
• Complete necessary training as required and mandated.
• Adhere to established standard processes and maintain team discipline.
• Collaborate with High Performance Work Teams (HPWT) to ensure a clean, efficient, and organized work environment following 5S principles.
• Coordinate and assist in monitoring workflow and tasks to manage varying patient volumes.
• Provide constructive feedback to identify educational and mediation needs by reporting issues, problems, and opportunities.
• Demonstrate the ability to perform assigned duties in a manner that meets the specific needs of the patient population served.
• Adapt assessment and service methods to accommodate the unique physical, psychosocial, cultural, and developmental needs of each patient.
• Take personal responsibility for compliance with all policies, procedures, and standards set by regulatory agencies and the hospital.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and avoid disclosing any sensitive information unless necessary for job performance.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education/Skills
- High School Diploma or equivalent experience required.
Experience
- 1 – 3 years of relevant experience preferred.
