Central Plant Operator

Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Central Plant Operator to join our team at SolutionHealth. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating and maintaining our central heating and cooling systems to ensure a reliable supply of steam, hot water, and chilled water.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and oversee central chiller and boiler plant operations, monitoring various meters and gauges and taking readings as necessary.
- Initiate appropriate action to ensure the continued and safe operation of central plant equipment, performing first response to all central plant operational problems.
- Start and secure boilers, chillers, auxiliary equipment, and controls to facilitate the generation of a continuous supply of steam for heating, hot water, chilled water, and process operations.
- Clean and repair boilers as needed, blowing tubes and discharging sediment, regulating feed water and condensate return pumps, and lubricating pump equipment.
- Perform service and preventative maintenance on all boilers, chillers, water pumps, control valves, etc., making necessary repairs or arranging for same.
- Test flow switches and safety equipment on boilers and chillers on a regular basis and maintain a comprehensive record of equipment history files.
- Clean inside of boiler walls and repair or replace broken or worn parts, preparing boiler and related equipment for state and insurance inspections.
- Order and maintain inventory of supplies, parts, and materials to support control plant operations, monitoring fuel supplies and scheduling deliveries as needed.
- Test boiler and cooling tower water samples, assigning proper chemical treatment and blowdown procedures, and record and maintain a record of all results.
- Coordinate annual and unscheduled repair work with contractors and vendors, orchestrating the start-up and shut-down of central chilled water plants to ensure timely availability and continued reliability.
- Coordinate any and all shut-downs required on all utilities on central plant, including gas, water, electric, steam, and chilled water.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associates degree in applied science (HVAC) or equivalent experience preferred.
- Completion of certified program in steam engineering; four to six years of experience in maintaining central plant.
- Certification for refrigerant removal; R2/D2 Journeyman license or equivalent skills and experience required.
Work Schedule
Monday through Friday, rotating on-call, rotating holidays.
