Radiation Protection Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Radiation Protection Specialist to join our team at RP-PROG/Radiation Protection Programs. As a key member of our Technical and Regulatory Programs (TARP) Team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety of our workers, the public, and the environment.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and Implement Radiation Protection Procedures: Collaborate with the RP-PROG Procedures team to develop, revise, and implement radiation protection procedures, policies, and technical basis documents within the Radiation Protection Division.
- Ensure Radiation Protection Principles are Incorporated: Ensure that radiation protection principles are incorporated into policies and procedures to protect workers, the public, and the environment.
- Provide Radiological Technical Support: Provide radiological technical support to field Health Physics personnel and other LANL customers.
- Assess Risk and Vulnerabilities: Independently assess risk and vulnerabilities within the Radiation Protection Program and identify solutions.
- Conduct and Support RP Assessments and Audits: Conduct and support RP assessments and audits.
- Support RP Software and Applications: Assist the RP Software and Applications lead in the creation, administration, and user support of the RP-PROG software application suite.
- Experience in Procedural Development: Experience in procedural development to include policy documents and radiation protection instrumentation.
- Knowledge of Health Physics Principles: Knowledge of health physics principles and theories, and their operational application.
- Research and Problem-Solving Skills: Experience in conducting research, investigating alternative solutions, and recommending solutions on problems affecting radiological safety/protection.
- Communication Skills: Ability to conceptualize and communicate fundamental elements of radiological safety/protection to both technical and non-technical personnel.
- Education and Experience: Bachelor's Degree in Health Physics, Nuclear Engineering, Physical Science, and 2-5 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
- Database and Software Development Knowledge: Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office and Adobe PDF software products, and database and/or software application development knowledge or experience.
- Health Physics Knowledge: Working knowledge of Health Physics in plutonium and accelerator facilities.
- Advanced Education and Certification: MS in Health Physics, Radiation Protection or related field, and ABHP certification or progress towards an ABHP certification.
- Security Clearance: Ability to obtain a Q clearance.
