Position Title: HR Operations Specialist

About the Role: The HR Operations Specialist position is intended to assist with various HR administrative functions, including talent acquisition, onboarding of new employees, and general HR support. Responsibilities encompass communication and assistance for HR training sessions, scheduling interviews, and managing special projects.

This role will report directly to the HR Manager and collaborate closely with the administrative team.

San Diego Community Power is a community-focused, non-profit public agency dedicated to providing sustainable energy solutions to the San Diego area. Established in 2019, we are the second largest Community Choice Aggregator (CCA) in California, serving nearly 1 million customer accounts across various member agencies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in ongoing recruitment initiatives as necessary.
  • Research and propose new avenues for sourcing both active and passive candidates.
  • Support the auditing and maintenance of employee records and applications.
  • Conduct initial screening interviews and verify references for background checks.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding all HR-related information.
  • Collaborate with departments to enhance the hiring process and improve internal policies.
  • Manage recruitment sections of the website, including job postings and HR analytics.
  • Engage in organizational committees, including event planning.
  • Demonstrate excellent time management skills and the ability to work independently or collaboratively on multiple projects.
  • Assist in public outreach events to educate the community about our mission.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Experience in human resources or office management with a strong emphasis on customer service and confidentiality.
  • General administrative skills, including organization, filing, and customer interaction.
  • Familiarity with HR management systems.
  • Ability to identify opportunities for process improvements in HR administration.
  • Flexibility to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, for collaboration with staff and external contacts.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and virtual meeting applications.
  • Ability to engage with diverse individuals and communities.
  • Public speaking skills and the ability to communicate persuasively.
  • Discretion and diplomacy in handling sensitive issues.
  • Willingness to travel locally for meetings and events.
  • Maintain accurate records of employee attendance and leave.
  • Assist the HR Manager with policy development and salary administration.
  • Coordinate job postings, candidate shortlisting, and interview scheduling.
  • Facilitate orientation and training for new hires.
  • Ensure effective communication with employees and timely resolution of inquiries.

Education and Experience:

Any combination of education and experience that provides the necessary knowledge and skills. A typical qualification would include:

Academic credits towards a degree in business administration, human resources, or a related field, along with two years of experience in human resources or a relevant area.

Work Environment:

This position involves extended periods of sitting and working on a computer. Occasional lifting and moving of objects up to 25 pounds may be required. Local travel may be necessary for attending events and meetings.
