The City of Irving is currently accepting applications for the upcoming Police Officer entrance examination. Interested candidates will be notified once the examination date is established. This notification will provide further instructions on how to secure a testing slot. Please ensure that your email settings allow communication from our department.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • At least 20 years and six months of age when the position is offered.
  • Vision must be correctable to 20/20.
  • Must possess good hearing in both ears.
  • Applicants should have an Associate's degree or equivalent (60 credit hours) with a minimum GPA of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale; exceptions may apply for qualifying military or peace officer experience. Specifically:
    • If you have completed three or more years of active military service and have exited active duty under honorable conditions as prescribed by TCOLE, you must have a high school diploma or GED.
    • If you are currently employed as a full-time peace officer for three or more years immediately preceding your application (excluding breaks in service of 180 days or less), you must have a high school diploma or GED.
  • If you have served in the military, you must have been discharged under conditions not less than honorable.
  • A valid driving record is required. Candidates must have no more than two hazardous violations or accidents in the last 18 months and no more than four in a 36-month period.
  • No felony convictions or any criminal convictions above the grade of a Class B misdemeanor, or any Class B misdemeanor within the past 10 years; other convictions may also be considered.
