Job Posting

The role involves supporting the Building and Standards Program aligned with the city's Strategic Plan to ensure safety and security within the community. Responsibilities include conducting inspections to verify adherence to minimum building standards, ensuring accurate documentation, reviewing repair scopes and timelines, and preparing cases along with expert testimony for presentations to the Building and Standards Commission during public hearings. Additionally, the position entails assisting in the management of Boarding Home and Vacant Building Registration Programs, coordinating the Temporary Sign Retrieval Program, and contributing to educational outreach initiatives for the Code Enforcement department.

A high school diploma or GED is required, along with two years of relevant experience in code enforcement or building inspection, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A current Code Enforcement Officer's License issued by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, along with International Code Council Certification (either International Property Maintenance Code or International Residential Building Inspector), and a valid Texas driver's license, or the ability to obtain one, are also mandatory. A resume must accompany the application.

Supplemental Information

THOSE WHOSE DATE OF HIRE (START DATE) IS FEBRUARY 19, 2023 THROUGH SEPTEMBER 30, 2024, ARE ELIGIBLE FOR A HIRING INCENTIVE
  • Individuals hired into this position will receive $1000 after their first 30 days of employment provided there are no documented attendance or disciplinary issues.
  • Employees that successfully complete their 6-month orientation period will receive an additional one-time payment of $1000 provided there are no documented attendance or disciplinary issues.
  • Employees that successfully complete one year of employment without documented attendance or disciplinary issues will receive an additional one-time payment of $1000.
  • The maximum amount of hiring incentive that an individual employee may receive is $3,000.
