Role Summary
The Vocational Advancement Specialist (VAS) is instrumental in our vocational education and student placement initiatives. Key responsibilities include:

  • Client Outreach: Represent JobTrain at events aimed at attracting potential clients and employers. Cultivate and maintain relationships with employers for student placements.
  • Orientation and Enrollment: Conduct orientations for prospective students, assist with intake documentation and eligibility assessments, and manage the registration process for vocational workshops.
  • Coaching and Support: Monitor student progress, provide regular feedback, and offer personal and career counseling. Facilitate referrals for additional support services as necessary.
  • Training Facilitation: Assess client needs and deliver individual or group training on essential skills such as resume writing, interview preparation, and workplace etiquette.
  • Job Placement: Assist with job searches, placements, and externship opportunities. Identify job openings and submit resumes to potential employers.
  • Reporting: Provide timely updates on program outcomes and deliverables to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with career development staff to enhance and improve processes within JobTrain.

Qualifications

  • 1-2 years of relevant experience in job development and placement.
  • Proven background in workforce development and labor market dynamics.
  • Experience managing documentation and workflows effectively.
  • Familiarity with caseload management and working with specialized populations facing employment barriers.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage client needs effectively.
  • Exceptional customer service and rapport-building abilities.
  • Effective communication skills, particularly in guiding discussions toward employment goals.
  • Facilitation skills for delivering training in various settings.
  • Critical thinking with a focus on empathy, equity, and inclusion.
  • Understanding of grant-funded programs and reporting requirements.
  • Proficiency with various software and systems.
  • Willingness to travel as needed within designated regions.
